Wheezer's Notes: Tanagers are beautiful but not frequently seen in the backyard. They remain aloof only rarely venturing close enough to be clearly seen. We were able to snap the shots we have of the summer tanager only because this pair was apparently attracted to the bright colors of our rose garden and the convenient, easy-on-the-feet perching place provided by an obelisk. The male Scarlet Tanager is distinguished from the Summer Tanager by the more contrasting, black wing color of the Scarlet Tanager.
